Learning through games: an innovative way to learn good hygiene practices in cleanrooms

5 October 2022

A. Garnier, P. Bonnabry (Genève - Switzerland)

The objective of this workshop is to learn about the concept of learning through games with the presentation of the "Handtastic Box" game created at the Geneva university hospitals, which teaches hand washing according to the WHO standard. After a brief reminder on the use of edutainment in the field of hospital production, two teams will be invited to challenge each other on the original games. Their mission will be to detect the forgotten step in several videos showing hand washing prior to entering a cleanroom. Thus, the teams will be able to deduce the area not properly washed. A collaborative work will be essential as each mistake will cost them a minute on the final time! The public will participate in the form of a quiz. The debriefing will be followed by an award ceremony. To complete this workshop, the results of a study that evaluated the impact of the "Handtastic Box" on the learning of handwashing, hand disinfection and sterile gloves gowning will be presented. These results will be accompanied by a discussion on how to transfer this concept to other hospitals and for other topics.
