Large scale production in The Netherlands
3 October 2024
Dr Marleen Kemper, Apotheek A15, The NetherlandsIn the Netherlands hospital pharmacies have a long experience with the small-scale manufacturing of medicines. In the past two decades there is more cooperation between the hospital pharmacies and facilities for production were centralized. In 2014 Apotheek A15 was founded and in operation. Currently this manufacturing pharmacy is owned by four academic hospitals and is a unique cooperation between different hospital pharmacies. Apotheek A15 makes medicines which are not commercially available. Furthermore, it assists hospital pharmacies with the production of ready to administer (RTA) syringes. In this presentation I will focus on the organization of the pharmacy in relation to the hospitals, the facility, automation of processes and how we operate in line with the national and international regulations. Briefly our role in medicine shortages will be discussed.
